Description:Cute little baby turtle hatching out of his egg. I came across a photo of a hatching turtle and just loved the idea. You can read more about the inspiration for this at my blog. I think baby animals are getting to be a trend with me after the baby rat and this one. I might do a few more but stick with the theme of not so cuddly animals.
This was fun to sculpt even though since I sculpted it in pink super sculpey that I hadn’t leached at all it was a bit soft and gooey working with it. I dug through my boxes of beads and found these pretty slightly pearlescent black beads that just look great for the eyes. I painted the body of the turtle with thin washes of acrylic which lets the translucency of the pink sculpey still show through which adds to the realism.
I have a video of the Hatching Turtle on YouTube.
